I enjoyed the overall storyline, and the side characters. If you can suspend reality, and get past the number of impossible things, and a slightly annoying female main character, it’s enjoyable.The idea that the main characters hooked up, and then realized the next day that he was her boss was intriguing. They are complete opposites. He’s a stuffy loner, and she was raised on a hippie compound. The office is compromised of former navy SEALS that have gone into private security. Aurora is hired to be a temporary secretary/office manager, but has aspirations of being a researcher. Multiple times she is shot down, and told to know her role. However she still takes aIt upon herself to reach out to various businesses in regards to an active case, and compromises the case. Not only was she insubordinate, but clearly since she didn’t even realize that could happen as she did not have enough experience or knowledge. Jackson never acknowledged their hook up, and basically ignored her. The rest of the office sort of ostracized her and made her feel unwanted.Just after telling Jackson she was giving her notice, as she was clearly not fitting in, a baby is dropped off and she and Jackson are to go in to hiding to protect this baby. Aurora annoyed me numerous times during their journey. She was oblivious to the fact that they are in hiding or there was danger. While shopping for supplies she was asking for a stroller to go on walks, and other big ticket items. Hello, you’re hiding! Again she took it upon herself to do some research and compromise their position, by going to a public library and logging into her personal email and social media. Certainly someone without experience might not consider such things, but she literally just kept saying to herself that she knew she could do more and wanted to prove she was capable. She was a secretary, and these are military trained men she’s working with. Not to mention the military trained men and mafia men that are looking for them. But somehow this inexperienced girl just knows that she knows more. When they get taken hostage she drives and talks to the kidnapper, and somehow her conversational skills are sooo amazing we are to believe the FBI was blown away and offered her a job. They. called. her. And they’re going to train her. Who knew it was so easy to get into the FBI?After she discovered she’s pregnant, Jackson writes her and the baby off. He wants nothing to do with either of them, outside of providing her support. He actually walks away and leaves her at a gas station. She’s crushed, yet somehow still interviews for another job at his company. Can you say awkward? I can guarantee if some guy wrote me and our baby off, and said he wanted nothing to do with either of us, I would not be considering seeking employment at his company again. At the interview he literally just told her “I made a mistake and I love you” and she just fell at his feet like it was nothing to be angry about. Even looking past all the unbelievable other parts, that part irritated me most. It was all too rushed. There was no making amends, or groveling, or proving he was committed to being involved. Just “I changed my mind” and POOF, let’s buy a house. Uuuuugh.I can look past a lot of implausible ideas, it is fiction after all. I just felt like I rolled my eyes a fair amount during the story. And the ending being rushed pretty much ruined it for me. I loved Aurora’s family and the overall storyline. So overall, I guess it’s a resounding Meh from me. This novel starts off extremely hot! Jackson and Aurora have chemistry together. On the run with baby Buster, things quickly become serious and fast. Who exactly is after the baby? Who is the baby. So many questions! Can Jackson and Aurora find the answers in time? Read this delightful novel and find out!
