713 The New American Standard Bible (NASB) is widely regarded as one of the most literal and accurate translations of the Holy Bible into modern English. Naturally, it is a translation I wanted to add to my Kindle library of Bibles, and I recently did just that. I chose the NASB 1995 Updated Edition with Translators’ notes. It has turned out to be a very good choice.I really like the way the NASB reads. The modern English can seem a bit over-formal and slightly “wooden” at times, mainly because it is, to the greatest degree possible, a direct word-for-word translation from the original Hebrew and Greek manuscripts. Nevertheless, is clear and easy to understand.I am a bit disappointed in the way this Kindle edition of the NASB was put together. It is in paragraph format rather than verse-by verse. (Most print editions of the NASB are in verse-by-verse format, which I prefer.) Programmers made the unfortunate decision to place the translator’s notes at the end of each paragraph instead at the end of each chapter or book. This tends to serve as a distraction for me, as it breaks up the flow of my reading.The Kindle edition of the NASB works well on all my devices and apps, including my Kindle for Windows 10 PC program. It responds promptly to my mouse clicks and finger touches. Hyperlinked references and notes all work flawlessly. I can navigate easily to the book level through the Table of Contents, but have to manually navigate to chapter and verse.Overall, I think the NASB Kindle Edition is good but could be improved. Users should be given the option to use paragraph or verse-by-verse format, and they should be permitted to navigate all the way down to individual verses. And translator’s notes should be placed at the end of each book rather than at the end of each paragraph.Recommended.
